IKEA Karlstad Sofa

So when I was a student a few years back. My sofa in the living was composed of foam mattresses and blankets rolled up into sort of a ‘sofa’. Of course, since it was tied together with strings, it kept falling apart. Once I graduated, I bought a small compact SOLSTA sofa-bed from IKEA. $169 + tax and delivery. (see how I sold it for $80 on Craigslist in my other blog post)

However, although it was nice, it was time for an upgrade. So…we recently went to IKEA and got the ‘buy one sofa, get the second on 50%’ deal 🙂 Because my living is so small, I had to pick carefully.
Luckily, IKEA has a wide selection of different sizes, styles, colours and prices.

Because we had a mini-van and transported it ourselves this time, we didn’t have to pay for delivery. 🙂

Tadaaa~! The new Karlstad Sofa and Chaise!! in Lindo Beige. Originally $1199.99 + tax = $1343.99. But with the promo, it came out at $1041.00 with tax! Big savings! 😀 It took a few hours to put it together and put the covers on, but it was well worth it!! Yay!!

  1. Hello. I am considering purchasing a solsta sofa bed for my small apartment. Just for use as a sofa and extra sleeping space if needed. Is this actually comfortable to use as a sofa? I like to sit and read for class on the sofa sometimes as opposed sitting at a desk for hours. There are many negative reviews of it online so I am concerned. Did you find yours to be comfortable enough? Thank you.

    • Hi Melly,
Thanks for checking out my blog. The size of the sofa is great for a small apartment, and the fact that you could easily transform it into a bed for guests is also a plus (perhaps not the most comfortable bed, but it works). I recall the sofa to be on the firmer side, so if you like that, you might like it. I didn’t mind the smallness and the comfort level was ok, however, I didn’t spend hours on it, so then perhaps my opinion would be different if I did have to. The quality of the fabric isn’t that great (dirt tends to show easily), and the cushion for the seat and backing does start moving around which can be a bit annoying. I did wish that the height of the backing was higher. If it’s not placed against a wall, you might not have a backing to rest your head against. Not a sofa you can sink into and relax. It’s not good as the Karlstad, you are getting what you pay for. However, I didn’t hate it or regret buying it. Try going to IKEA and sitting on it for some time in the showroom to give you a better sense of what it feels like. Good luck! My official blog is now at http://www.idearabbit.ca/
