Reflections 2013

Every year, the students in the IDEA (Illustration and Design) program at Capilano University take on the big task of managing the art projects to raise funds to support their learning and continued cultural enrichment. I know it’s a huge project, and a lot of work, cuz I went through it too. Though it seems that it gets bigger and bigger every year, so I can’t imagine what the students are going through in trying to push this project through.

The ‘Reflections’ project started off small when the program started out. Each student painted a iconic scenery of Lower Mainland, mostly in the Vancouver area. The paintings were scanned and produced into calendars. Both the original paintings and calendars were sold to raise funds.

As the program grew bigger, and the project picked up in the local media, retail and residents, so did the project. We started producing greeting cards, buttons, and other original paintings. It was a lot of work, but I did learn quite a bit from the experience, from painting, marketing, producing merchandise, printing, online stores, social media and so on.. so it was a valuable project.

Katie & Birdie Paper Company

Katie & Birdie Paper Company

I happen to find a pack of hedgehog illustrated cards at Chapters on Robson. Two things I love – hedgehogs and cards! It was a bit pricey…$12 for 8 cards with envelopes…though now that I think about it, a single cards from Carlton Cards or Hallmark can easily be $3 and up, so if you think of it that way, maybe it’s a good price. It was also 30% off at the time, so bonus!

The cards are textured, giving it the ‘hand-crafted’, earthy feel. The kraft envelope is also a nice combo. It’s simply a must buy!! And send/give it to your friends and family who deserve a cute ‘thank-you’. 🙂

They also have a simple, yet beautiful blog >> click here.

Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender

So, for the longest time, I had those huge kitchen blenders that just sat on the corner of the kitchen counter collecting dust. My co-worker had the Magic Bullet, and introduced me to how convenient the single-serving blenders were. I was really interested in getting myself one, so as usual, I started to research.

The Magic Bullet was way more than I was willing to spend. ($73 at Amazon.ca) and with a really small kitchen with no more space, I didn’t want to buy anything that came with all kinds of parts and features. I wanted simple. I found Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender. No extra parts, not fancy buttons. Just blends with one button. That’s it – just the way I like it.

What I like about it:

  • the lid is actually a travel lid, meaning there’s a small hole with a cover that you can slide so you can drink while on the run
  • because the container is (or can be) the cup that you drink out of, there aren’t leftovers, or excess blended food. But if there are leftovers, just put the lid on and put it in the fridge for later consumption
  • small and compact – takes very little space in your kitchen or office
  • easy to clean, stainless steel blades
  • makes smoothies, icy drinks, shakes, protein drinks! it’s the healthy way to go~
  • BPA free in food zones
  • quality backed by 5 years warranty
  • the price – only $17 !!

I simply love this device! No more hassle with big heavy blenders. I keep it at my workplace to have a fruit smoothie for breakfast or snack. It’s great!! I recommended to everyone! 😀 Get it @ Amazon here!
